If there is no budget limit, what are the things needed to host a website something like youtube?

I know this question is very broad, to narrow down, here is what I need to know:

  1. How many servers youtube is using? Example: 1 mail server, 1 main database server (with several clones to support), 1 web server, etc

  2. Bandwidth is another crazy things. How does youtube handle its bandwidth stuff?

  3. Any technical stuff I need to know?

  4. Please advice some technology you know that you think youtube might be using it?

  5. Any other useful tips or advise?

Thanks.

Appart that this question is not really relevant :

  • lots of bandwith (a few 10 Gbit lines)
  • lots of CPU power (converting videos)
  • lots of space

I'd probably get a few blade servers, a very fast SAN server and cluster some webservers and databases. (considering you are scaling like youtube ofcourse).

Anyway google has their own way of building datacenters
