I have a no name, non-branded SOHO NAS unit. It allows me to format the HD with ext2 or ext3 (also FAT32, but who wants that?) and it's supposed to give me ftp (it does), SMB (it does, and NFS. The last is a problem. I haven't been able to connect via NFS. I've pinged the device by a name I gave it in the /etc/hosts file (nasgear) and by its IP address. I've also done a nmap to it and get this:

Nmap scan report for nasgear (192.168.0.25)
Host is up (0.017s latency).
rDNS record for 192.168.0.25: nasgear.farsight.com
Not shown: 994 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
21/tcp open ftp
80/tcp open http
111/tcp open rpcbind
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
445/tcp open microsoft-ds
515/tcp open printer

I cannot get to the actual OS on the device, so I can't check to see if the exports file is correct or even exists (I'm sure the OS is a *nix).

I can provide a description of the device, I have the MAC address. So, the question is, how do I get this to work? Has anyone had some experience with this? The manual says NAS Gear User Guide, but neither the device, the box, nor the manual have anything remotely stating the mfr or anything of the sort.

So what do you want us to do? If you can't tell us anything about your equipment, or anything about the software that it is running on, then we really can't do much to help you. You could post a pdf on the manual somewhere? Post a picture of the device? Surely there is a serial number on it, or at least an FCC ID. – Zoredache Sep 6 '11 at 18:12

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

A bit of googling comes up with:

www.omnitech.com.tw/files/NAS_Gear_user_guide.pdf

Is this your unit? If so, did you look at page 17?

YES! That's the unit, and yes, I did check the enable box to allow NFS. My question was if anyone knew about the box or knew who made it. The answer seems obvious, Omnitech. Which means I may be able to contact them and get some assistance. Thanks. – Mark Sep 7 '11 at 1:12
