I have a requirement where i need to access an intranet site on my mobile phone. the site is hosted on my machine, my mobile is connected to the Wifi but it doesn't resolve what http://mymachine should mean. since my device doesn't have a hosts file concept, it relies on the proxy server to resolve the url. I want to setup a proxy server where i can setup the IP to URL mapping and thus when the browser accesses http://mymachine it should be able to translate it to the IP as sent by the proxy. I am having windows server 2008r2, what do i need to do. Any suggestions?

What OS is your "device" running? – Mircea Vutcovici Sep 12 '11 at 17:39

This sounds like a lot more hassle than actually setting up DNS, however could you please provide further information:

  • Is the phone you're using going to be accessing this computer internally or externally?
  • Do you have an existing proxy server in place?
  • Is "Your Machine" the Windows 2008 computer, or something else?
  • Why aren't you configuring the IP in internal DNS in your domain or, if you don't have one, why don't you set a dns server up on your Server 2008 machine instead of the proxy?
