I have an American office who are saying that the canvas page on a facebook app is coming up as server not found.

However in the english office, the page loads fine.

I have asked them to run some commands to figure out why its an issue, this is what got returned:

$ ping -c 4 canvas.theaudience.com
ping: cannot resolve canvas.theaudience.com: Unknown host
$ dig +trace canvas.theaudience.com ANY

; <<>> DiG 9.7.3 <<>> +trace canvas.theaudience.com ANY

domain netgear.com

As you can see dig can find what the name resolves to, yet the ping cant.

Any ideas?

What does "host -v canvas.theaudience.com." show? –  cjc Sep 12 '11 at 15:18
Isn't dig a more verbose command? –  azz0r Sep 12 '11 at 15:42
Yeah, dig should be enough. I have no problems resolving your host from a couple of American IP addresses. –  snap Sep 12 '11 at 15:47
BTW, your question is confusing: The title says "500 error" which sounds like you are talking about HTTP error 500 which means "Internal server error", but the content is about DNS issues. Something does not match here. –  snap Sep 12 '11 at 18:23
Are you sure it's actually using those DNS servers? resolv.conf specifically says This file is not used by the host name and address resolution or the DNS query routing mechanisms used by most processes on this Mac OS X system.
