I am having a problem in JBoss 5.1.0 with the vfs-nested.tmp folder filling up with copies of the same jar files.

I know that other people have had this problem before, but I am unsure as to what my next steps should be.

A few facts:

  • We are running JBoss 5.1.0
  • Deployments are done using Twiddle via the MainDeployer - hdscanner is disabled
  • We are running on RHEL 5 on a virtual machine and have been able to add some disk space to avert the immediate crisis
  • we aren't using clustering (some people have had this problem with clustering)

I have a couple of questions:

  1. Can I delete these files without stopping JBoss? If not all of them, can I at least delete the oldest? Will this cause problems with the application?
  2. Some solutions suggest to set various flags such as -Djboss.vfs.forceNoCopy=true or -Djboss.vfs.forceCopy=false, but then cite concerns over memory consumption. Has any progress been made on this?
