I have put a SAS controller ( RocketRAID 2642 ) in a Dell PowerEdge T100. I need to read some Maxtor Atlas 3.5" drives as JBOD.
The drives will not recognize in the controllers BIOS and therefore never initialize. The drives spin up, but only click as if they are searching for the SA without finding it.
When I try with a 2.5" SAS drive, no problems and I have checked that the 3.5"s are mechanically sound as they initialize in an array box. I have powered the drives from the power supply and and external source with the same results.
I'm a software guy, so there is probably some hardware spec I'm unaware of, but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what to try next as I have tried everything I can think of.
