Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Starting form the top I've formatted and mounted a new driver to my server(Suse 11.4 Raid1). I've edited Samba config in yast2 and the conf file. Through win 7 I can enter every folder and change whatever I want on the server. The problem is that I can only enter the new drive without the ability to write. I've tried everything relevant that I found on google (changing permissions, force mask and so on) but still I can't add files to the new drives. Mayby it has something to with mounting the drive? My current config :

  comment = Storage

  path = /srv
  read only = No
  writeable = Yes
  guest ok = Yes
  create mask = 0777
  directory mask = 0777

- what are the actual permissions on the new drive ? - what are the fstab entries for both a working share and the new drive ? - what is the samba config for a working share ? –  adaptr Oct 20 '11 at 15:59

mount-options and directory permissions are necessary. –  Kvisle Oct 20 '11 at 16:16

can you be a little more specific? I'm a neewbie.I mounted the new drive through a partitioner in yast. I don't know if that is what you are sking but I have a raid on /dev/mapper/pdc_giffbaghf with partitions and the new drive on /dev/sdc1 . Working share path= /home/shares writable = yes valid users = @users create mask = 0660 directory mask= 0771 forced group = users –  Michał Korzeniowski Oct 20 '11 at 17:02
