We recently upgraded an EC2 instance (us-east) to Ubuntu 11.10. Since then, we've been experiencing a seemingly abnormal number of processor hangs. Apache etc continue to run (according to monit emails), but httpd is unresponsive and often/usually sshd as well.

Restarting into a new instance seems to have had no effect. All upgrades have been applied.

Advice / ideas / mockery for missing something obvious?

Not sure of an answer, but you may want to check the output of /var/log/messages and dmesg, correlating the timestamps with the hangs you're seeing. –  Andrew M. Oct 20 '11 at 20:41

What processes are using the CPU? Check with top? –  Kvisle Oct 20 '11 at 20:43

Seems to be mostly resolved after both Ubuntu updates and forcing the virtual instance to run on new hardware. Thanks for the comments above. –  1kenthomas Oct 23 '11 at 22:50
