On CentOS there is a limited amount of memory called Kmemsize which is eaten by etherent connections. This used to be the bottleneck for my connections to memcache and databases.

My question is -whats the equivalent on Ubuntu? I want to know where I stand in terms of available resources for more connections.

When you say "ethernet connections", what exactly do you mean? Do you mean connected ethernet interfaces? Or TCP connections? – David Schwartz Oct 26 '11 at 13:40
