I have the following situation:
On a Windows Server 2008 (hosted in data center) the IIS 7.0 was malfunctioning. It didn't serve any webpages anymore and the IIS control panel wouldn't let me configure the server due to this error message: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {2B72133B-3F5B-4602-8952-803546CE3344} failed due to the following error: 80040154.
I've googled much about this error, and did some non critical changes (like giving permission to a folder), but that didn't work.
As a last effort I tried to reinstall the IIS. After deinstalling the windows server panel prompted me to reboot before completing the uninstalling. Thats what I did, but the server is now stuck at a Windows Updating process (Update 3 of 3, 73%) for hours.
Seems a bit weird? As far as I could tell automatic updates were disabled on this server (it ain't mine), so it could be possible, that no windows update has ever been installed. I've google a lot about Windows Server 2008 being stuck at the update screen, and somewhere it was stated, that this was 'issue' was fixed with a Hotfix, but without a link the hotfix itself or a name.
So, how can I bring the system back, or the real question 'How do I get IIS 7.0 back up working'?
