I'm trying to create a link between two of our internal servers once is a brand new install of Microsoft's SQL server 2008 Standard (x86_64).

The other is MySQL (v5.x) running on a CentOS Linux box.

I've been following the guides found at http://www.packtpub.com/article/exporting-data-from-ms-access-2003-to-mysql and http://www.packtpub.com/article/mysql-linked-server-on-sql-server-2008

Installation of the mysql ODBC connector (v5.1.9) went fine and I can create the ODBC data source and test it succesfully.

When I attempted to create a linked server using the settings specified in the article SQL Server will crash and have to have it's service restarted manually.

There is an entry in event log but it dosn't seem much help:

Faulting application name: sqlservr.exe, version: 2009.100.1600.1, time stamp: 0x4bb6b40b Faulting module name: myodbc5.dll, version: 5.1.9.0, time stamp: 0x4e8b6a8e

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Thanks
