I am using Windows Vista with Cygwin running on a PUTTY console. When I issue the command "psql -l -U grants -W", there is no output (i.e. no prompt for the password even):

But echo works ok..

Fri Nov 11-11:42 AM - ~/wd > psql -l -U grants -W

Fri Nov 11-11:42 AM - ~/wd > echo asdfaswd
asdfaswd

When I try "psql -l -U grants -W" on a plain Cygwin console (or indeed in a DOS box), it behaves as expected i.e. I see the password prompt and see the command output.

What setting on PUTTY could possibly be hiding this output?

Is that with Cygwin's PostgreSQL or a Windows version? –  ak2 Nov 11 '11 at 7:20
