This is driving me a little crazy as previously it ran a full and happy backup.

I'd changed the directory to run a test and forgotten to change it back! Now waiting for it to run new job. Hopefully that will straighten this out. –  eGJD Jun 29 '09 at 5:54

You have run out of disk space:

[Errno 28] No space left on device

rdiff likes to hog space in temporary folder (especially during recovery, but maybe also during backups). just run

df -h

couple of times while backup is running (both on client and server) and see on which device you run out of space. if it happens to be temporary folder use --remote-tempdir and --tempdir options to specify place with plenty of space.
