I have a poweredge 2800 running Win Server 2008 r2. It drops off the network ~ every 24 hours. We have ruled out networking related issues and did make sure that the NICs dont fall asleep after a certain period of inactivity. I am update to date with my patches.

I even tried both the NICs to rule out any NIC related issues.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Model/Type Nics? Anything in the OS logs? – Bart De Vos Nov 28 '11 at 16:10

What info have you collected? What OS logs have you looked at? Have you looked at your switch logs? What exactly does "drops off the network" mean? Is it precisely 24 hours on the nose, or is it just roughly once per day? You really need to do some more basic troubleshooting and come back to update this question with meaningful details. This community is here to help, but it's not here to do your job for you. If in doubt, read How to Ask. – MDMarra Nov 28 '11 at 16:12
@MarkM - you would be the last one I would let do my job. I don't need any help from you. Thank you for attempting anyways. – Shaji Nov 28 '11 at 18:35

@Shaji Judging by the lack of answers here and the upvotes that my comment has, it would appear the people are tending to agree with my statement. You asked a poor question with scant detail that amounts to HALP ME! MY SERVER REBOOTZ SUMTIMES without giving any useful information like logs, NIC models, driver versions, etc. How to Ask outlines why it is important to provide detailed information. Without this info, everyone would just be taking a stab in the dark. I'm sorry if you feel offended, but as it stands, this question is worthless. – MDMarra Nov 28 '11 at 18:41
@BartDeVos - This server has Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT. It happens once a day and right before, I get the NETLOGON 5719 error. For this error, I tried to follow the Microsoft suggestions (all patches up to date), but no luck. I have worked extensively with our networking team (I dont have their logs), but they couldn't identify anything. This error is followed by error 1054 GroupPolicy. I also worked with out windows team and they couldn't point me in the right direction...just frustrating. – Shaji Nov 28 '11 at 18:47

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

A cursory search yields a couple results to look at. Namely, something in your DNS might be kinked. A lot of times when things like this happen with XP, unjoining and rejoining the domain fixes the issue. That may not hold true here.

Thank you. We have already tried this in vain. – Shaji Nov 28 '11 at 20:29
