I have an SMB connection to a Windows printer; the password is embedded in the connection. Certain applications, like gedit and vim will print to the printer without prompting for a password. Other applications like Firefox and Evolution always prompt for a password. I'd like them either not to prompt for a password at all or only prompt once.

Is there a way I can do that?

remove #AuthInfoRequired username,password from the printer's definition in /etc/cups/printers.conf – Octopusgrabbus Dec 7 '11 at 22:59
