Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've got monit set up and running. It monitors and will restart Apache and Mysql fine, but won't do the same for ar_sendmail.

If I start ar_sendmail, monit won't pick up that it's running even though ar_sendmail.pid has been generated and monit is configured to look in the right place for it.

And if ar_sendmail isn't running, monit won't start it up - monit.log is filled with this:

[UTC Dec 8 19:01:21] error : 'ar_sendmail' process is not running
[UTC Dec 8 19:01:21] info : 'ar_sendmail' trying to restart
[UTC Dec 8 19:01:21] info : 'ar_sendmail' start: /etc/init.d/ar_sendmail
[UTC Dec 8 19:01:51] error : 'ar_sendmail' failed to start

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I suspect monit is running as root but could be a permissions issue. ALso make sure $PATH is correct. –  jeffatrackaid Dec 8 '11 at 20:40

What does your config look like? –  quanta Dec 9 '11 at 6:34

The pid recorded in ar_sendmail.pid could be different from actual PID –  sendmoreinfo Aug 19 '13 at 11:55
