I need to register few domains for some people. These sites will be for small business owners who don't really know much about the internet so I'm looking for something which I can just set up and hand over. Are there any issues related to domain names when running a site? I know they should be renewed before they expire but other than that, is there something I need to know ?

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

I just register my domains with reg123 and other reputable services, the main thing with managing domains is making sure all the DNS entries are correct and pointing to the right location. Getting DNS control of your domain is critical, if you get stuck with a domain provider that doesn't give you full access to your DNS you end up in a sucky situation where you have to keep contacting the registrar to make changes

One tip is to use Amazon route53. They have several server spread across the globe which can be useful to minimize the time needed to resolve a name. They have tools that allow you to automate the process of creating records but you need to register the domain somewhere else (like GoDaddy). Remains only finding a way to automate the registration of domains.
