Outlook 2007 on Windows 7, instant search / windows search enabled, Exchange 2010.
A user (our CEO) with a very large mailbox (~10GB) + equally much in PST files has a recurring issue. It appears that Outlook instant search stops indexing new email. This has happened twice in 1 month. The solution that worked the first time was to SCANOST and SCANPST all files & repair/fix, and then going into Tools->Instant Search -> Search Options... and unchecking all files, applying, and re-checking... (forcing a full reindex prior to that did not help)...it seems like it forgets it needs to index the email or breaks in some way.
Since it's new emails not being indexed and Outlook is in cached mode, of course the OST is the focus even though I mention SCANPST.
That only kept it going for 3 weeks, then it happened again. Uncheck/recheck fixed for another week or two, and now it's back again.
Is the sheer size of these files the source of the issue, or could there be other causes? Archiving a lot of mail has not been the first option, as it's our CEO, but may be part of the solution unless someone tells me this should work fine with much larger mailboxes.
