lets suppose we have a following configuration:
- a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine with DHCP and RRAS services installed
- the machine has one NIC
- the machine is in NATted LAN, with port redirection for VPN
- DHCP server scope is 192.168.5.x
- RRAS server is configured to assign IP addresses to VPN clients through DHCP
- RRAS Server obtained IP addresses are: 192.168.5.3-12
- RRAS 'Internal' NIC IP address is: 192.168.5.3
- a VPN client connected IP address is: 192.168.5.8
The question: if the VPN client uses DHCP 'on behalf on' RRAS service already, why would I want to use DHCP Relay Agent feature in RRAS? It seems to me that the Relay Agent feature is somehow redundant. DHCP broadcasts don't propagate over different subnets, but (it appears) that both VPN client, RRAS server and DHCP server are on the same subnet (192.168.5.0/24). Why would I want to use DHCP Relay Agent?
