I have a network management card I need to install into our Dell UPS. Do I need to power-off the UPS first before installing the card, or can I just plug it in? The manual says it's as simple as slotting it into the rear of the UPS but doesn't mention if you have to power down first.

EDIT: The UPS is a Dell 2700W Rack/Tower

I don't know, but it may help those who do if you provide the exact model of the UPS and the management card. – Dan Dec 19 '11 at 9:30

Thanks Dan, I have added the model and link to the product page to the initial question. – Reado Dec 19 '11 at 9:43

Why not just ask the Dell support? They would know. Just for the reference: with APC SmartUPS models (similar in functionality) you would need to switch off the UPS and unplug the power cord. Edit: I believe the Dell UPS is manufactured by Eaton and is in fact the EVLSL3000. – syneticon-dj Dec 19 '11 at 11:01
APC Smart UPS's must be turned off before inserting the network management cards. I can confirm the failure to do so will fry the card. Better safe than sorry if you don't find the answer. – Paul Ackerman Dec 19 '11 at 12:56

Cards usually need the power off. If you have to unscrew anything to get to it, power it off. If it is a plug that has an open port, you should be safe to plug in while it is still on.
