Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a Windows 2008 server and have 128 GB of RAM. I use it for IBM software which doesn't take more than 3 GB of process space.

The issue is that from time to time, my server runs out of resources (I don't know which resources but I just see error in event viewer) and halts all processing. When this happens I can not even take a remote desktop connection or open task manager.

Almost 100 GB of RAM is always free and I have 132GB of virtual memory (page file). What could be the reason of the issue? Which resources are not free? Can anyone please advise.

Thanks in advance.

So, it would be very helpful if you could post the details of that Event Viewer message. – EEAA Dec 28 '11 at 5:58

I would suggest setting up a resource monitor preferrably from a machine other than the one with the issues. This should give you a good indication of which resource is giving you trouble.

Technet guide to setup resource monitor.
