Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I previously joined a domain using likewise-open 5.4 on Ubuntu 10.04. Then I left the domain using likewise-open, and switched to using samba to join the domain. Now when I lock the computer and try to unlock it when the network connection is slow or if the domain controller is down, it will hang forever - until the connection is fixed or DC comes back online.

I have another Ubuntu 10.04 server with an identical samba configuration to join the same domain - and it works perfectly. The only difference is that this other server never had likewise-open installed.

Have you removed the likewise-open package? I don't think it should be stalling your logins when it's not joined to a domain, but, check your PAM configuration? –  Shane Madden Dec 29 '11 at 3:44
Yes - the likewise-open package has been removed. I did also make a copy of the /etc/pam.d folder before installing likewise-open and the backed up (pre- likewise-open install) files all match the current /etc/pam.d files. –  Jeff Dec 29 '11 at 4:10
