I've got a Samba Server running on Ubuntu 10 that's a Primary Domain controller for a small domain of XP Clients. this server was working on Ubuntu 6.06, and I upgrades (6 to 8 and 8 to 10) and suddenly my domain user logins stopped working. I can join the domain, access file shares etc, but the machine says the domain is not available, and my event log has an entry that says "The RPC server is unavailable" when I tried to login. I'm sure I'm missing some setting, or some piece of the migration. Any ideas?

mostly suspect as dns problem, if can you telnet to the server on port 445 what happens? – tony roth Dec 30 '11 at 23:06
Any chance the upgrade whacked your firewall configuration? – SpacemanSpiff Dec 30 '11 at 23:52
Anything in the Samba logs? – jelmer Dec 31 '11 at 16:43
I can telnet to the server fine. The system is on an internal network, so the firewall is turned off. The actual logs in /var/log/Samba aren't showing anything out of the ordinary. – SamuelWarren Jan 3 at 14:35
