I know this topic has been discussed several times already, Ive read over the threads and just want to make sure my understand is correct here:
I have a small business client running a 2003 SBS on a very old machine. It really only acts as the DC and is basically a file server. Exchange isnt being run nor even DHCP. That being said is it a simple matter of joining the new domain to the server then running DCPROMO on both machines to demote the current DC and then promote the new server? I believe the only thing that needs to be transferred is the 8 users setup in AD but worst case scenario i could easily re-enter them onto the new server. We arent talking hundreds of users or anything.
Ive read about the ADPREP command but not really sure if it fits in here since this seems like a really simple transition. Sorry for the newb question but my experience is mainly in desktop support, this is my first go at server work (gotta start somewhere!)
