Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have some users using that are browsing the web via an ssh tunnel through tinyproxy and have problems with terminals dying with a WSAETIMEDOUT error.

Is there a way to increase performance of OpenSSH to make it more stable? I'm running OpenSSH 2.0 on Ubuntu 11.10 server.

Have you checked your logs? You'll get a lot more help here if you can provide some troubleshooting data. Look for logs in /var/log/... on a CentOS box, OpenSSH saves its logs to /var/log/secure. I'm not sure what it uses on Ubuntu. –  David W Jan 14 '12 at 4:34

OpenSSH 2.0??? The last version is 5.9... The server is very stable. I don't understand what you mean by 'terminals dying', what terminal? They only use a browser? You make them set up the SSH tunnel? How so? Configure your clients to send keep alive packets or the server may disconnect you if he sees no data for a while. –  Aki Feb 12 '12 at 14:38
