I'm trying to add a node to a 1-node Windows 2008 R2 cluster that is already running MSSQL 2008 R2 and MSDTC. Shared storage is provided over iSCSI and the initiators are just the MS software iSCSI initiator.

When it runs the validation tests to add the node, it fails on the List iSCSI Host Bus Adapters step with:

An error occurred while executing the test.
There was an error getting information about the iSCSI controllers installed on the nodes.
There was an error retrieving information about the iSCSI host bus adapters from node 'hostname.example.com'.
Invalid class

I've rebooted, both of the boxes are running the same hardware and built from the same PXE-booted image (I've not had a problem with this before with the same image).

The only complexity I can see is that the network connectivity is currently provided by a single broadcom NetXtreme II NIC which has been configured as a dot1q VLAN trunk with two networks on it. Network is otherwise stable and works fine, and I've had similar deployments work ok.

What's the issue, and what does invalid class mean?
