suppose I have SATA 4 Port RAID 0 Card with 2 disks initially, would I be able to add more disks later to the raid card without formatting existing data?

background/motivation:
I have 3TB of mysql that can't be paritioned onto multiple paritions/drives, it would require single parition/drive. The maximum size of a HD is 2TB, hence I need raid0 to maximize space benefits(cost is also a factor). If I understand correctly, raid1 would not give me anything beyond 2TB no matter how many individual disks I add to it, right?

Using RAID-0 should only be considered if you hate your data, and want to lose it. – Zoredache Jan 27 at 18:26
@Zoredache: it's as reliable as a single disk, isn't it? – user12145 Jan 27 at 19:42
No, in an n disk RAID0 the reliability is 1/n as reliable as a single disk. A failure of any single disk results in the loss of all data. By having more disks you increase the chance one will fail. A 2 disk RAID0 is twice as likely to result in a loss of all data when compared with a single disk. – Zoredache Jan 27 at 19:46
@Zoredache: what raid configuration should I use then? – user12145 Jan 27 at 21:04
It all depends on how much fault tolerance you require, and what performance you require. These days I tend to prefer RAID10, or RAID6 setups. Both provide good redundancy, but RAID10, performs better in many cases because no parity has to be calculated. – Zoredache Jan 27 at 21:12
