Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am looking for advice on how to optimize a ClearOS Enterprise 5.2 (+) install for disk i/o.

For example, I installed my ClearOS on a thumb drive. I am seeing that the thumb drive flashes a LOT (disk activity).

Maybe it's logging settings, or filesystem settings, both, or ?

Update: Found this, for logging and noatime http://www.ulverston.myzen.co.uk/mini-itx/pages/tuning.htm

Also, this seemed useful to disable the gui at the console (less hd activity, memory, etc): http://www.clearfoundation.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,232/catid,38/func,view/id,666/

This is not fit for a Q&A site like Serverfault, and it's way too overbroad. Ask on the ClearOS forums instead. –  pauska Jan 28 '12 at 14:22

is this better now? –  Scott Szretter Jan 28 '12 at 14:54

@ScottSzretter - isn't it just a tweaked RHEL distro? not sure there's too much ClearOS-specific about it –  Chopper3 Jan 28 '12 at 16:06
