I have an SBS 2008 installation and i want to create a distribution list entry and have it forward mail to two external email address like gmail accounts. This is what i have done so far but i get a user unknown and error ndr when i send to it.

  1. I created a distribution group called abc@domain.com

  2. I created two mail contacts under mail contacts in Exchange Management Console

  3. I went to the distribution group called abc and i added members from the mail contacts list

When I send mail from within outlook web access it routes properly, but anything from the outside world, like telnetting to exchange server and sending it with the rcpt to: command i get "UNKNOWN USER"

Is there another way to create an email account for an organization and then have mail forwarded to multiple external email addresses that are not part of the original domain, like to two other gmail accounts? thanks.

What email address are you using as your RCPT TO address in your test? The DG or the Contact? – joeqwerty Jan 30 at 22:01
the rcpt to:abc@domain.com is what i am using and it comes back with "unknown user" – dasko Jan 30 at 22:03
