On Windows Server 2003 I'm finding that files deleted from the desktop go to the recycle bin (subject to size constraints) but files deleted from a users downloads folder just seem to vanish. I've checked group policy and I cant see any setting in Windows Components > Windows Explore that would explain this.

Where can I adjust setting for this behaviour for this particular user directory?

Why do you care about the recycle bin? Setup VSS (shadow copies), and/or a good backup system. – Zoredache Feb 2 at 20:54
@Zoredache VSS and a backup system are both in place. The issue is not one of recovery but rather learning. I don't understand where deleted files from these directories go... but I think i should. Since there is no prompt warning that the file is not being sent to the recycle bin, I'm assuming it is being sent "somewhere". Thnx – rism Feb 2 at 21:03

Files deleted over the network are not moved to the server's recycle bin. They are deleted. If you use VSS, then they stay in the previous snapshots until the snapshot ages out. – uSlackr Feb 2 at 21:26
