I would like to encrypt an entire partition on a Windows XP computer and have that volume available to the system after I enter the password and then log off.

I do not want to use the pre-boot authentication because I will not have physical access to the server on a normal basis.

Just un-check the "User log off" option under Tools > Preferences > Auto-Dismount.
