Edit the /etc/sysconfig/httpd file. Change

#HTTPD=/usr/sbin/httpd.worker

to

HTTPD=/usr/sbin/httpd.worker

and restart the apache service.

I dont have both the files, I have my apache installed undet /opt/httpd/ –  micheal marquiz Feb 28 '12 at 20:54

Then apache is installed from something other than the standard packages. One would need to know where you got the package from or if you've built apache from source –  Solvent Feb 28 '12 at 23:14

Well I got it from httpd.apache.org/download.cgi#apache24 and untared it to my server location. –  micheal marquiz Feb 29 '12 at 1:35

I was able to compile Apache 2.2.22 with the following command to enable worker MPM

./configure --with-included-apr --prefix=/path/to/install/apache-2.2.22 --enable-so --with-mpm=worker
