I'm having a problem with my MySQL / phpMyAdmin couple. I can log in MySQL but when I try to log in phpMyAdmin the error returned is "#2000 Cannot log in to the MySQL Server" . I'm running Windows Server 2003 / MySQL Server 5.5 / phpMyAdmin 3.4.6.

With a 16 bit password I can log in MySQL but not in phpMyAdmin whereas with a 41 bit password I can log in MySQL and in phpMyAdmin. The old_password directive doesn't change anything.

I only know the root password but the fact is that I can't change all users passwords because I don't know them, so I have to find a solution :(

Can someone help me ?

Have you tried starting the mysqld with --old-passwords ? –  symcbean Feb 29 '12 at 15:51

Yes, actually I tried to start MySQL with old_password = 1 and #old_passwords = 1 in the my.ini –  Cyril L Feb 29 '12 at 16:04
