For one of my websites in the vhost.conf file I have added a line to push what comes in the site specific error log to rsyslog. Problem with that is that it does not leave a copy or anything in the original error log. Is there a way to correct that to make the errors display in /var/log/messages and the error_log for the site as well?

Show us how you send the log to rsyslog. What is the ErrorLog directive you use ? –  Iain Mar 15 '12 at 8:14
IIRC rsyslog can just "watch" a file itself... rsyslog.com/doc/imfile.html –  Jiri Xichtkniha Mar 15 '12 at 9:53
