First thing: with SSL, if you redirect from "https://subdomain.domain.com" to "https://domain.com" the browser will throw security warnings unless you have a separate certificate for the subdomain, or a wildcard SSL certificate for the domain.

Secondly: whilst I don't have much of a clue about your setup, virtual hosts can be configured to redirect from http to https and vice versa, simply by using the http or https in the URL you are redirecting to. You haven't specified what kind of webserver you are using so I will assume Apache; this is an apache virtual host configuration for xxx.domain.com that will take any request to this server for xxx.domain.com and redirect to "https://mydomain.com/folder/".

<VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName xxx.mydomain.com
        RedirectMatch permanent ^/(.*) https://mydomain.com/folder/$1
</VirtualHost>

see http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_alias.html#redirectmatch
