I have a Virtual Machine running on VirtualBox, on which I installed Ubuntu 11 Server (I left it "plain vanilla", it just runs Apache and MySQL). I created a shared folder with Samba and I can access it correctly. However, I noticed that copying files from/to the shared folder is quite slow compared to doing the same thing with my other VMs which run Windows (XP, 7 and Server 2008) and have the same virtual hardware.
At the beginning I also noticed a bit of slowdown when I logged in to Ubuntu with Putty. I read somewhere that disabling reverse DNS would help and, in fact, it sped up the login, but not the share.
Please note I'm running all these VMs on a single computer (one at a time) and I don't have a DNS Server, Domain Controller and so on.
I'm not an experienced Linux Administrator, therefore I might have done something wrong. If there's any detail that might help finding out what's wrong, I'd be happy to provide it. Thanks.
