Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a dedicated server with several virtual hosts on it (CentosOS 5). Most of content is served via lighttpd and just some via apache. The problem is that, while apache is working perfectly well, most of requests to lighttpd get timeouts. It worked just fine two days ago and there were no changes in code or configuration since then.

Server load is almost none, there are no errors in error log, and there's no increased traffic that we would notice.

any thoughts on this?

thanks, Lukasz

Does the host running lighttpd seem to be responding normally? –  David Schwartz May 5 '12 at 12:56

yes, it does. And domains are resolved correctly. –  Lukasz Twardowski May 5 '12 at 15:01

If you manually issue a request to lighttpd (by telnetting to it and typing in a GET request) does it respond slowly? Is the TCP connection accepted immediately? –  David Schwartz May 5 '12 at 15:20

It turned out that it wasn't lighty's fault and all the clues were just a coincedence. The real trouble was with connecting the IP - once we we have switched to a new IP everything started to work as it should. Don't know what caused the problem and I will leave it to GoGrid to answer this question as I believe there is something wrong on their side. –  Lukasz Twardowski May 8 '12 at 0:00
