I have just come out from troubleshooting one specific problem relating to nessus scans and disabling of NIC port. To overcome it i had to switch off vmware networking services (as it was sending vtp updates to switch). This solution pretty much solved my problem.

However, for some connectivity issues i don't want to disable these services for the scans- is there a way i can prevent these updates effecting / coming to switch. Is there a command that would prevent this from happening at the switch level.

Thanks guys.

Update Yeah you are right the whole debate started with stp but when i read from internet that vmware by default sends out vtp updates. So, the focus shifted from stp to vtp.

What connectivity issues? Are you using VLAN's? Do you have a VTP domain set up? –  joeqwerty May 11 '12 at 17:24
Connectivity issues in sense that i don't want these services to be stopped as they are using by my guest vm. Don't have any vlans options configured or anything yet. –  asadz May 11 '12 at 17:36
I don't see anything about VTP in the question you linked. Do you mean STP? Those are very different things. –  Shane Madden May 12 '12 at 2:39
