Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a website running on port 3000 in a vmware instance. obviously from the hosting systems (the one that runs that vmware instance) I can access the site like this:

but when I type my host machine's IP (real ip):

I dont get to the site.

The vmware instance uses bridged networking. the host computer is connected to a wireless router which is connected to an ADSL modem. in both I forwarded port 3000. 1) in the modem I forwarded port 3000 to the wireless router 2) in wireless I forwarded port 3000 to the host computer

what am I missing here?

Did you try the VM's address? –  Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Jun 1 '12 at 15:41
the VM's address is 192.X...., wont do any good outside of my network. got the address by 'ifconfig -a' on the vmwared server –  soulSurfer2010 Jun 1 '12 at 15:45
No, but you can enter it in the forwarding. –  Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Jun 1 '12 at 15:46
