I'm trying to change my Postfix configuration in order to relay Postfix SMTP via smtp.gmail.com. I changed the /etc/postfix/main.cf file, reloaded Postfix but nothing changed. I also tried to use the command line postconf -e, without results.

>sudo postconf -e "relayhost=[smtp.gmail.com]:587"
>sudo postconf -d relayhost
relayhost =

Nothing changes even if I restart Postfix. What's happening?

postconf -d shows the default, not the current value. just type 'postconf relayhost' –  Gryphius Jun 14 '12 at 15:54
