I get the above error when I am using Facebook PHP-SDK to design a login for my website. After suggestions, I have disabled IPV6, and changed the iptables to open ports 80 and 443. Currently my iptables reads like this:

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere multiport dports www, https state NEW,ESTABLISHED
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW tcp dpt:www
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW tcp dpt:https

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW tcp dpt:www
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere state NEW tcp dpt:https

Is this a server problem on my side?

Find the hostname which it is trying to connect to and check that you can resolve the DNS name and connect using telnet to ports 80 and 443. –  mgorven Jun 18 '12 at 4:28
