I am working on email server, since i tried several times to create email server on ubuntu12.04LTS with postfix + dovecot + postfixadmin + courier + clamav + spam assassin. But everytime I install these packages I face new problems, like mails send to localhost users and found in users maildir. But I can't determine how to configure/setup for send an email to external smtp like gmail, yahoo. The most worst thing i can't determine how to use sasl, because I am not using SSL so it is not worthy for my domain.

This is so complicated, i search everywhere on google: links are https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PostfixCompleteVirtualMailSystemHowto http://www.starbridge.org/spip/spip.php?article1&lang=fr http://knopix.wordpress.com/2008/01/16/postfixadmin-postgresql-courier-squirrelmail-on-debian-etch-howtotutorial/ http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/

Is there any article for install email server on ubuntu 12.04LTS. Please help me to understand these things.

To technically setup a basic e-mail server is one thing. A few commands and you are done. But considering e-mail servers are one of them most hacked & compromised targets on the Internet, it’s not that simple to say the least. If you genuinely want to create a public e-mail server, read up. You are in for a ride. –  JakeGould Nov 16 '13 at 9:08

Sorry bout that posted before complete; This should work to get SASL on Ubuntu, with standard apt-get'ed programs To use dovecot as the SASL authenticator use these lines, to your postfix/main.conf

smtpd_sasl_authenticated_header = yes
smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous noplaintext
smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtpd_sasl_type = dovecot
smtpd_sasl_path = private/auth

Now open /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-master.conf, and look for:

service auth {

inside this block add this

  # Postfix smtp-auth
  unix_listener /var/spool/postfix/private/auth {
        mode = 0660
        group = postfix
        user = postfix

restart both servers and try it, if it doesn't work check the log files and post back

Perhaps configuring mail server using linux is one of the most complicated things on the world.

If you just want uick results, iRedmail will be a nice choice, less than 1 min.

If you'd like to understand the whole processes and finished it line by line, follow:

Confiture postfix dovecot and mysql on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Consider following The perfect server guide to get ispconfig3 in place, that will also make management easier.
