Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a Debian 6 VPS running OpenPanel and I can't seem to get the root email forwarded to an email address of mine. I have tried the following:

  • Create a .forward file in /root/ with the email address.
  • Edit /etc/aliases and add my address in this way (root: email@example.com) (ran newaliases after)
  • Added an entry in the file that OpenPanel setup for aliases in Postfix.

When I run: [ echo "my test" | mail -s "test message" root ] and then I type mail, it says that root does not have any email.

I'd appreciate any assistance on this.

Thanks. Anthony
