Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm setting up a lab for Lync Server 2010. I can't wrap my head around the idea of using a reverse proxy when, to me, it looks the same as using a firewall and configuring PAT to communicate with the front-end server.

I couldn't find any documentation on Technet other than its good security practice to use a reverse proxy.

Can someone shed some light on the security implications here?
