Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a domain, let's say example.com, I also have configured subdomain dev.example.com. Now I want to create a new one subdomain sb1.example.com.
I added it to /etc/hosts, created virtual host in /etc/httpd/conf.d with name sb1_example.conf

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin foo@gmail.com
DocumentRoot /opt/www/some_dir/MyWebbApp
ServerName sb1.example.com
</VirtualHost>

When execute ping sb1.example.com it works and gives me IP address of my server.
But if I try to enter address in the browser it says: "Remote server or file not found"

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

EDIT: Resolved it was a problem in hosting provider.

Are you sure that's the exact error message? I've not seen that one in any of the browsers I use. –  Jenny D Jul 4 '12 at 13:03
