Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We have an openfiler ESA 2.99 storage box that hosts all our VM's via iSCSI.

However, recently it is beginning to act really weird..

Load seems normal on it (around 5.0-7.0) (it has 8 cores), but after some time (not more than a few minutes after boot) I cant start any vm's, and the storage gets inactive.

When trying to shutdown the server via SSH/Console, the server load increases infinitely (lately 60.0) before I kill it manually.

We suspect the system disk, as it states there is a predective failure - and are now in the progress of cloning it to another disk.

However, if that doesnt work - what are our chances?

Can we install openfiler again on a new disk, and gain access to our old LUN's without deleting data?

In such case, how do we do it easily?

We are running ESXi 5.0 on our vmware hosts, and the storage is formatted as VMFS5

Unfortunately, I dont have any logs to post from the openfiler, as it is in the progress of being cloned.

Regards,
