Hi we have the following application and would like to know if it is possible to use any existing product:

Need: Get internet connection to multiple handheld devices via WiFi (3G doesn't work)

Area: The area is dynamic. There are plenty of obstacles from the main router and the user.

Connection: The ideal method will be like this:- When the handheld device connection strength drops the user takes a few steps back till the signal is strong, take a WiFi device from his bag, turn it on and get an increase in WiFi signal coverage. Repeat this process as he is getting farther and farther from the main Router / Access Point.

Please let me know if this is possible to do with any of the existing products.

Yes it is, with any device which supports repeater mode.

If you have devices with one interface, which operate on one frequency, this also meens the bandwith is split in half after each device.

Hello Mulaz, Thank you for your answer. It is not possible to use the devices with repeater mode because of the bandwidth splitting as your explained. We have 10-20 devices (like a chain), so the end resulting bandwidth will be too low. Is there any other ways to do it? Here is an example scenario: static.inky.ws/image/2422/image.jpg The walls will block signal. All users and their positions are dynamic. you can use devices with two network interfaces, each operating on its own channel, and you will have no bandwidth splitting. Of cours you have to watch out for interference, since you only have three usable separated channels on 802.11 @2.4ghz – mulaz Jul 18 '12 at 22:07
