I am searching for a patch management solution to replace VMware Update Manager 4.1. Version 5 and later do not perform guest OS patching. My issue is that I need to patch systems on the other side of a firewall but I do not want to open RPC, NetBIOS or SMB file sharing (TCP 135, 137-139 and 445) to the remote systems. Update Manager handled this perfectly without the need for file sharing. Seems that Solarwind/EminentWare Patch Solution; VMware/Shavlik's Essentials/NetChk product and Quest's patch management solution all require SMB file sharing.

Does anyone know of a solution that does NOT require it? Thanks!
