Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have Bind (DNS) and apache (Web Server) runing on my laptop, I have set up a domain record, listing, names for my sites under .dev. as my top level domain.

This works when I set it up so bind and apache run on the Microsoft Loop Back Network Adaptor

by setting my DNS to the loopback adaptor, and my local network DNS as secondary.

However I'm now trying to set it up so I can access my websever from my network when I'm connected.

As such I set up a network bridge including the Loop Back Controler, Enthenet, and Wireless:

IP: 172.16.10.90 Mask: 255.240.0.0 Gatway: 172.16.0.1

DNS1: 172.16.10.90 DNS2: 172.16.0.1

172.16.0.1, is my router, which DHCP server, acollates the rang 172.17.0.1-172.31.255.254.

So ther is no risk of IP conflicts, as my IP is outside that range.

My Problem is once I have set this up it sometimes works perfectly.

However often I can't access the internet unless I disable the Loop Back interface.

However if I do this I can't continue using my local server when I don't have network access.

Is there any thing I can do to get this to work better?

Is there any reason why you used Loopback Adapter in the first place? – dusan.bajic Aug 1 '12 at 7:48
