Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have implemented JSPWiki on our local intranet. Several people have requested the ability to access intranet files from within the Wiki. Using the file:// URI is not really possible due to security restrictions.

Users can access files in folders on the web server over HTTP, such as those within the directory \\webserver\jspwiki\webapps\JSPWiki\Files.

Say I have another network share on our intranet called \\otherShare. I am wondering if it is possible to somehow map (link?) the shared directories in \\otherShare as directories within this Wiki directory. Is that possible?

So users could reference http://jspwiki.example.com/JSPWiki/Files/Share/file.ext, where file.ext was really present in \\otherShare\Share.

The suggestions by @ErikA and @Zoredache are somewhat helpful, but I would really like additional information if any one could share some more detailed direction.

Having never heard of JSPWiki before this, it's probably safe to say that this question would likely be more well-answered in a topic-specific forum, mailing list, etc. For a generic solution, though, you could turn on IIS on the \\othershare machine and share out that folder via HTTP or HTTPS. Alternatively, map a drive from the jspwiki machine to that shared folder and use an Alias to point requests to /Files/ to that mapped location. –  EEAA Aug 7 '12 at 20:08
What web server are you running? Is their some reason why you can't just have your Intranet web server connect to your fileserver share and share the folder out? Or why not setup a web server on your file server? –  Zoredache Aug 7 '12 at 20:13
@ErikA, I think the question is sufficiently general to not be specific to JSPWiki. The answer may be specific to Apache Tomcat. Can you please provide a bit more detail on "use an Alias to point requests . . ."? Thanks. –  slachterman Aug 7 '12 at 21:48
@Zoredache, Apache Tomcat. I can't unfortunately set up the web server on the file server. Can you provide a bit more detail on "have your Intranet web server connect to your fileserver share and share the folder out"? Thanks. –  slachterman Aug 7 '12 at 21:50
